NFIRS is offline. NERIS is the only national system.

Incident submission moved to NERIS exclusively on January 1, 2026. The last window to edit 2025 records in NFIRS closed January 31, and the system went dark in February after fifty years.

Historical NFIRS data from 1980 through 2025 remains available through OpenFEMA as a public release, but it is an archive — it does not flow into NERIS. Departments that used NFIRS as their retention system, rather than keeping records locally, lost their working copy.

If your reporting is current and your history is in a system you control, this was a non-event. If either is untrue, it is worth resolving before a grant cycle asks for a period you cannot produce.
